Dear Friends, Warm greetings from Pakistan!!
By now you have probably heard a bit about the floods devastating Pakistan. The response from the international community has been devastatingly slow and according to the Associate Press "U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he has never seen anything like the flood disaster in Pakistan." "This has been a heart-wrenching day for me," Ban said after flying over the hard-hit areas with President Asif Ali Zardari. "I will never forget the destruction and suffering I have witnessed today. In the past I have witnessed many natural disasters around the world, but nothing like this." Experts have said the situation in Pakistan is worse than the disasters in Haiti, the Tsunami, and earthquakes combined. Thousands are without shelter or packed into camps. Problems with accessing water and food abound. The situation is particularly bad for children and the worst is yet to come.Thankfully, many grassroots organizations and other ngos like My Own Children are on the ground doing whatever they can to help people get the support they need. Unfortunately, due to the level of devastation, this organization is stretched to capacity. The needs of the people are much more than agencies can currently provide without additional support. To that end, I am writing to ask you if you would please consider donating to My Own Children. At any rate, in this year of disasters I know you have probably already given to many very worthy causes. However, please consider donating to My Own Children. In supporting their thoughtful, well-planned, caring and compassionate efforts to respect, protect, and uphold child rights and build healthy, hopeful futures for Pakistan's young people, you will be doing more to help the counteract terrorism than any bomb ever will.Spread the word, and join me in supporting this great cause.
